If you have been subscribing to this newsletter for a while, you know how important it is to create many different income streams for your business. Affiliate marketing is an income stream that many business owners forget about.
You can use affiliate marketing to recommend other people's products to your clients, newsletter subscribers and blog readers. My clients often ask me when they should not spend the time creating a product and refer clients to someone else's product instead. Here are a few ideas:
- When you find a product you love and you know that your clients will benefit by using it. Your clients trust you to recommend products and services that they can use to improve their life and their business. If you find a product you like, recommend it to your clients, blog readers and newsletter subscribers.
- When the product is in an area that is very different from your core expertise. Recommend someone else's product when a client needs a product that you don't provide and lies outside the realm of your expertise. You are an expert at what you do best, so when you get questions that you don't know the answers to, make sure you recommend someone who does.
For example, if you are a business coach and someone asks you for in-depth information about finance, you don't have to create a product to address this need. Instead, recommend a book or e-book on finance that you find useful.
- When you concentrate on something else. If you are in the process of writing a book, or want to concentrate on offering your services, you will still run into people who need an e-book, a report or an audio recording you don't have for sale yet. In this case recommending other products makes you appear knowledgeable to potential clients who eventually may end up hiring you after using the product you recommend.
- When you want to monetize your blog and newsletter. Posting reviews of products you liked on your blog or in your newsletter will help you earn money.
There are many more reasons to recommend others' products and earn money by doing so. Even if you don't have a product of your own, you can still earn money by recommending someone else's products.
