Are you afraid to market your coaching business because:
- You don't think anyone will take your seriously?
- You don't think that potential clients will ever pay your rates, even though your rates are reasonable?
- You are not confident about what you are offering and you think others can do it much better than you?
If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, you need to work on your confidence. Many clients have come to me convinced that the reason they weren't successful was because they didn't know how to market. As we started working together, we found out that the reason had nothing to do with poor marketing. They were actively sabotaging their marketing efforts because they weren't confident in their skills and their offerings.
Once we worked on building their confidence, they were able to successfully market and get clients.
Here is how you can improve your confidence:
- Acknowledge your expertise. You know your subject matter much better than your potential clients. Decide that you are an expert at what you do and start calling yourself that! Once you know that you are an expert, it will be easier for you to market yourself.
- Don't get discouraged too easily. Don't get upset if you don't get an avalanche of clients right away. You may not get everyone you speak to turn into a client, but by continuously marketing you are going to let more and more people know about what you do. Once lots of people know about you and what you do, it will be much easier to get clients.
- Always be prepared. It may be intimidating to talk to a client or present a teleseminar if you haven't done that enough times yet. It is very easy to build your confidence in this case -- you can do that by being prepared. Take notes beforehand on topics you'd like to bring up during the conversation. Design your teleseminar before presenting it and you will see how much more confident you will be. Fear disappears when you have done your homework.
