I am sure you have heard many times from many different sources that having a large e-mail list is going to help you increase your revenues and be more successful. What I haven't seen discussed nearly enough, though, is the process for going from having a large list to actually getting more one-on-one clients and selling more products.
Having a large list is great, but you need to be able to get what you actually need from your list: one-on-one clients and product sales. There is absolutely no point to have a list of 10,000 subscribers if you do not know how to turn them into customers.
Here is a 3-step plan to help you turn your newsletter subscribers into customers:
- Build an extremely targeted list. A targeted list one where at least 90% of the people on your list are in your target market and the other 10% are almost in your target market. When at least 90% of the people on your list are in your target market, then every time you send out an offer at least 90% of your newsletter list is potentially interested in what you have to offer. Good odds, right?
The more targeted your list is, the fewer people you need on the list to get sales. If your list is targeted, and you have sales of 2% when you send out an offer, you need just 500 people on your list to get 10 sales. On the other hand, if you list is untargeted and you get only 0.1% conversion when you send out an offer, you will need to have 10,000 people on your list to get the same 10 sales.
It is much easier to get 500 people on your list than to get 10,000. Build a targeted list, and you will increase your sales and revenue really fast.
- Offer your subscribers what they really need. Your subscribers will not buy from you unless they need what you are offering. Survey your subscribers or find other ways to find out exactly what kind of products and services they need and then create them and offer them to your subscribers.
If you do not offer your subscribers what they need, you will not get any sales. If you offer them what they need, you will get many sales and many happy customers who use your products and services and refer you to others.
- Promote your offers in your newsletter on a regular basis. Your customers need to know what you are selling before they can buy from you. Now is not the time to be modest -- explain your offer and detail and explain how your subscribers will benefit from what you are offering.
The placement of your offer in the newsletter also matters. The closer your offer is to the top of the newsletter, the more people will see it and be able to take advantage of it.
Next time you are sending out your newsletter use this plan to improve your conversion rates and sell more of your products and services.
