More On MySpace and Marketing

Monday, July 31st, 2006

After I posted a message on Multiple Streams of Income, with one the examples in the message being a person who got their start at MySpace, I found this message on Andy Wibbles’ Blog, titled Slashdot Geeks Skeptical About MySpace Traffic Claims. Also, take a look at the SlashDot’s Summary of Users Comments on MySpace

Yes, some people doubt the traffic numbers. Yes, MySpace might not have the best design on the Internet. But the proof is in the pudding – the web site WORKS, it attracts its target market, and lots of it. And it is getting heaps of FREE publicity while doing that.

Multiple Streams of Income

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Many of my clients ask me how to make money online. Everyone is looking for fun, original ideas to implement and make money. Moguls of New Media article in Wall Street Journal talks about just that – how different people leverage the Internet to make money.

Amond them is a popular member of an online community MySpace, podcasters, bloggers and creators of online videos. Many people are looking for entertainment online, so if you can create a video that becomes popular, it will be watched by thousands and thousands of people.

What I like about all the people mentioned in the article is that are diversifying their income streams. They have created different income streams – they make in-person appearances, take advertising for their content, sell subscriptions, sell content, speak, and much more. They realize that one venture, however popular, is not enough for continued success. Therefore, they diversify and create multiple streams of income, while doing what they love to do.

And, even though they make plenty of money now, they still continue to diversify. So if people who command thousands of video views and have very popular podcasts, are still interested in diversifying further, what does that tell all the online business owners and solopreneurs?

It tells us that creating multiple streams of income is what all the successful business owners do. In order to succeed, we need to be diversifying and have different ways to produce revenue. For example, a business owner should have revenue streams coming from one-on-one work, as well as group work, speaking engagements, subscription sales, books sales, ebooks and reports sales, audio and video content sales and more. Only when you have different products to offer to your clients, will you be able to create the revenue that you are looking for.

How Do People Use Your Ebooks?

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Want to sell more ebooks? Make sure they are formatted to suit your target customers! When you know how people will use your ebook, you will be able to format it properly, to make their experience great. Happy customers = recommendations = more sales.
For example, if you write an e-book about building birdhouses, I would expect people to print it out and use it that way. I would not expect them to keep running from the garage, where they are building the birdhouse, to the computer every time they need instructions.

On the other hand, my e-book, Complete Step by Step Online Marketing Course, is about marketing a business online. It lists lots of links and resources, that are clickable. Therefore, my clients get the most out of it when they are reading it on the computer, so that they are able to click over to the links and resources.

How are your ebooks formatted?

Building Awareness Using Your Blog

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

Many people ask me what I think of blogging as a way to build awareness and brand for a business. I love blogging – it helps me bring in more traffic and awareness for my products. It is easy to set up a blog – I recommend using software available on WordPress.org on your own web server, which is great for branding. You can also set up a blog at blogger.com.
A few ways to use your blog to build awareness for your business:

– Optimize your posts for search engines. By using search engine optimization you can drive more search engine traffic to your blog.

– Link to your web site and your products from the blog. By providing more information about you and your business, you get the reader interested in learning more about you and your business.

– Invite your blog readers to subscribe to your newsletter.

I have written many articles about using a blog for marketing. You can read them at https://www.avocadoconsulting.com/articles/ under Business Blogging.

What Are Your 12 Months Goals?

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Many solopreneurs have BIG goals for the next 12 months. For example, here are goals that lots of solopreneurs have for the next 12 months:

Passive Income Goal: Create at least three products (books, ebooks, special reports, audio CDs) and sell them on their web site.

Web Site Traffic Goal: Increase web site traffic at least 10 times, using article marketing and search engine optimization.

Business Blogging Goal: Create a blog and blog on a regular basis. Have the blog attract a lot of traffic, and use it to create brand awareness, leads and sales for the business.

These sound like a great goals, but the problem is that many solopreneurs don’t follow up on them. 12 months come and go, and they are not any closer to implementing these
goals for their business.

After talking to many solopreneurs, I find this happens for a few different reasons:

Solopreneurs and online business owners would love to implement the goals, but they do not know how to do that. They don’t know how to do search engine optimization, get a business blog or create and start selling an e-book.

They search for the information online, become overwhelmed with all the information available, and are not able to extract the information they need.

Solopreneurs need to ask follow-up questions about marketing techniques. Many have told me that after buying an information product on search engine optimization, online marketing or passive income stream, they still need some help implementing the techniques discussed.

Since they can’t ask the author more questions about implementing the techniques in their business, they give up on marketing techniques and their goals.

They are not connected with peer professionals. To stay on track and keep motivated, you need to be connected with peers who are working on similar goals. You can also ask your peers for feedback on your products and for testimonials and bonuses to include with your new products.

My Complete Online Marketing System, addresses all of the above issues and helps business owners achieve their passive income, web site traffic and blogging goals. Here is how it does that:

Complete Online Marketing System includes my very popular Step By Step Complete Online Marketing Course, that describes to you in non-techy steps how to apply search engine optimization, business blogging, article marketing and other marketing techniques to your business.

Should You Host Your Blog Separately?

Monday, June 19th, 2006

When business owners are just starting blogging for business, one of the questions they ask is where to host the blog. Some want to host it as a part of their business web site, while others are interested in having a blog separately. Which option do you like better?
My own blog (you are reading it) is a part of my web site
( https://www.avocadoconsulting.com/marketing/ ). However, I have seen many blogs that weren’t the part of the main web site, but rather were hosted elsewhere. You may just grab another domain, and use the no charge Word Press software and host the blog that way. Or, you may use a hosted service, such as Type Pad or Blogger.

No matter which service you use, make sure that your blog has links to your newsletter, book, other products, so that your blog readers can learn about them.

You can still get traffic to your blog by optimizing your blog posts for search engines, listing your blog in blog directories, etc. The main thing to remember is that to get traffic to your blog, you need to promote it as you would promote your web site. No promotion means there will be no traffic.

Three Ways To Get More Newsletter Subscribers

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

When you create a product, you want to let as many people as possible know about it. After all, the more people know about your products, the more of them will be able to buy it, and the more money you will make. The best way to achieve that is byy having your own opt-in mailing list.

If you already have an opt-in list, here is how to drive more mailing list subscribers:

– Write articles and submit them to online article directories. Make sure that your resource box invites the readers to subscribe to your newsletter / offers a gift to subscribe.

– Use search engine optimization to optimize your web site and drive new newsletter subscribers.

– Blog and feature your newsletter subscribe box prominently on your blog.

How To Network Through Your Blog

Friday, May 5th, 2006

Online networking is a business building technique that myself and my colleagues use. After all, how else would you have clients from the US, Canada, Europe and Australia if it weren’t for online networking?

Many people thinking that online networking means just networking through business networking web sites – LinkedIn, Ryze, email lists, etc. But what about blogs? Can you network through your blog and make meaningful business connections?

Web Pro News has a great article on Blogging Connections. Do you network and make connections with other business owners through your blogs?
