How To Start Writing An Ebook

Monday, July 24th, 2006

Does the idea of writing an e-book seem like a huge task? The secret to creating an e-book is to break the process into smaller steps. To start, you need a plan. When I sit down to write, I usually have a topic, an outline, and an idea of how long the piece is going to be. Having these three pieces of information in advance keeps me focused on writing, and not on planning or making topic and length decisions.

So how do you do the preliminary work and decide on topic, outline and length? Here is how:

1. Choose A Topic. What are your clients already interested in? If many of your clients are interested in a particular topic, it will make a perfect theme for an e-book.

2. Create an Outline. It is very important to create an outline for your product – it guides you through your writing, and it gives you an idea of the expected length of the finished product, and it helps you include all the information into your product. Somewhere between five and ten sections is ideal.

3. Select a Length. Your outline and topic(s) should give you a good idea of a length for your project. Given 2-4 pages per section in your outline, you now have 10-40 pages for your finished product.

You are now ready to write your e-book! To learn the five steps of creating, marketing and selling your e-book, get my “5 Steps to Creating Your First Ebook” special report.

How Do People Use Your Ebooks?

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Want to sell more ebooks? Make sure they are formatted to suit your target customers! When you know how people will use your ebook, you will be able to format it properly, to make their experience great. Happy customers = recommendations = more sales.
For example, if you write an e-book about building birdhouses, I would expect people to print it out and use it that way. I would not expect them to keep running from the garage, where they are building the birdhouse, to the computer every time they need instructions.

On the other hand, my e-book, Complete Step by Step Online Marketing Course, is about marketing a business online. It lists lots of links and resources, that are clickable. Therefore, my clients get the most out of it when they are reading it on the computer, so that they are able to click over to the links and resources.

How are your ebooks formatted?

What Are Your 12 Months Goals?

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Many solopreneurs have BIG goals for the next 12 months. For example, here are goals that lots of solopreneurs have for the next 12 months:

Passive Income Goal: Create at least three products (books, ebooks, special reports, audio CDs) and sell them on their web site.

Web Site Traffic Goal: Increase web site traffic at least 10 times, using article marketing and search engine optimization.

Business Blogging Goal: Create a blog and blog on a regular basis. Have the blog attract a lot of traffic, and use it to create brand awareness, leads and sales for the business.

These sound like a great goals, but the problem is that many solopreneurs don’t follow up on them. 12 months come and go, and they are not any closer to implementing these
goals for their business.

After talking to many solopreneurs, I find this happens for a few different reasons:

Solopreneurs and online business owners would love to implement the goals, but they do not know how to do that. They don’t know how to do search engine optimization, get a business blog or create and start selling an e-book.

They search for the information online, become overwhelmed with all the information available, and are not able to extract the information they need.

Solopreneurs need to ask follow-up questions about marketing techniques. Many have told me that after buying an information product on search engine optimization, online marketing or passive income stream, they still need some help implementing the techniques discussed.

Since they can’t ask the author more questions about implementing the techniques in their business, they give up on marketing techniques and their goals.

They are not connected with peer professionals. To stay on track and keep motivated, you need to be connected with peers who are working on similar goals. You can also ask your peers for feedback on your products and for testimonials and bonuses to include with your new products.

My Complete Online Marketing System, addresses all of the above issues and helps business owners achieve their passive income, web site traffic and blogging goals. Here is how it does that:

Complete Online Marketing System includes my very popular Step By Step Complete Online Marketing Course, that describes to you in non-techy steps how to apply search engine optimization, business blogging, article marketing and other marketing techniques to your business.

Ebook Software

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

Many people ask me to recommend software for creating and selling their new e-books. There are lots of different software on the marketing to do that. I have created and sold many of my own e-books, and I have helped many clients to do the same. I have used PDF file format for all of my e-books, and I recommend it to everyone I work with. It is the most universal format for such things, and people using different computers and different operating systems can read PDF files. All they need is a free application called PDF Reader. Once they install it on their computer, they can read your e-book immediately.

If you decide to go with other software, I strongly recommend that you learn about its compatibility with different operating systems. If someone buys your e-book and they can’t read it because they don’t have software to read it, they will ask you for a refund. It is, therefore, in your best interest, to use the most common and universally used file format to deliver your e-book.

My special report, “5 Steps to Creating your First Ebook” addresses in-depth questions of how to sell your e-book, what system to use for that (shopping carts and more) and how to market it. You may check it out at https://www.avocadoconsulting.com/rlinks/zebook

and web site
, thus giving you even MORE exposure.

I will be using all of my knowledge of online marketing to promote YOUR articles and YOUR web site links.

Here is what you need to do:

How to Make Money with Affiliate Programs

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Many people ask me why I am so excited about affiliate programs and affiliate marketing. Well, where else can you make money with inventory, without having to create the product, without having to process product payment or do product fulfillment?

With affiliate programs you can concentrate on one thing – marketing and selling the products, while leaving all the other things to the products’ owners. As an affiliate you can pick and choose your offerings, and you can experiment with lots of different products at a time. After all, since you don’t have to invest in the inventory or payment processing, you can get rid of products and add products that make the most sense to you. You can also create any product combinations to promote on your web site.

This is why affiliate marketing is one of the passive income streams I teach at Marketing Salad. The minimal investment of a web site(or no investment at all, if you already have one) helps you gain understanding of affiliate marketing, without having to invest much of anything upfront.

Create a passive income stream for yourself – join Avocado Consulting affiliate program and earn 40% commissions on every sale. All you do is market and sell – payment processing, fulfillment, customer service is done by AvocadoConsulting.com. Try affiliate marketing – you will be glad you did.

Do You Have Web Site Traffic, But Not Enough Product Sales?

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

Every few days I receive questions from business owners, who have been marketing their web sites for a while. They are listed in search engines, participate in link exchanges, some even have their own affiliate programs.

All of these online marketing techniques are driving traffic to their web sites, but are not bringing in sales. Many business owners turn to me to help them analyze their web site, and tell them why the customers are coming, but not buying.

There are a few reasons this might be happening. Here are online business tips to help you figure it out:

1. Check your traffic sources. Are these web sites really sending you traffic? Many of my clients think that particular web sites are bringing in a lot of traffic, but looking at their web site statistics sometimes shows this not to be the case.

Don’t just think that certain web sites bring in traffic – check the statistics to be sure. To see how much traffic you are getting from those web sites, check your web site statistics.
No traffic = no sales.

2. Check the web site traffic quality If the web site statistics show that you are getting a lot of traffic from different web sites, check to see what kind of traffic they are sending you. For your web site traffic to actually bring in sales, their target traffic and your target customers should be the same.

If their traffic is interested in toys, and you are selling high end real estate, that traffic will not buy from you.

3. Check your own web site. If the web sites are sending you traffic, and the traffic is good(meaning it is in the same target market as your customers), than the problem might be at your end. You might need to make your web site more user friendly, make it easier for your customers to buy through your web site, etc. The Turn Web Site Visitors info Customers Special Report discusses how to make sure that your web site actually SELLS.

How To Price your Digital Products

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Many students and clients ask me how to price their products – CDs, e-books, reports and teleseminars. Suveying what other online publishers are doing is a great first step in setting a price; however, every publisher is different and every product is different, so you can’t set your price just like someone else you know.

I have sold many of my own products and clients’ products, and here are some things to take into consideration:

– Look at what the competition charges for similar products – this is your first reference point.

– Experiment with different prices – you never know until you try. I have seen it with my own products, and my clients products – sometimes when you increase the price, you also increase the sales.

– Do the math. When you increase the price, you don’t have to sell as many products to make the same amount of money. If your product costs $10, you need to sell 10 of them to make $100. If your product costs $20, you only need to sell 5 of them to make the same $100.

– It is not just the price that determines your product sales; it is also the traffic you are able to drive to it. Investigate different ways of promoting your product online – search engine optimization, blogging, article writing and many more. Step by step instructions on using all of these marketing methods to promote your products are available in the Complete Step by Step Online Marketing Course.
