Coaches, Stop Offering Free Services!

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Every day I see coaches offering free coaching sessions and I just want to tell them to STOP! This is because offering free services is not a good way to get clients. Your time is valuable and you should only offer your coaching services to people when you are getting paid for them.

“But Biana” – I have heard many of my clients say when I told them not to offer free coaching sessions – “if we don’t offer a free coaching session, how do we find out I and the potential client are a good fit?”

This is a great question! It is important to make sure that there is a good fit for the two of you to work together. I recommend that instead of offering free coaching you offer a free “Getting To Know You Consultation” to people who are interested in your coaching services. Keep the session short, about 30 minutes and pre-qualify your clients before talking to them. Your time is valuable, so doing the pre-qualification work will help you see who is serious about working with you.

If you are not doing it yet, ask your potential clients to fill out a pre-consult questionnaire for me to get to know them better. Doing this also shows a commitment and interest from their side.

But what helped me even more to NOT offer any free services was creating products – E-books, Home Study Guides, Members-Only Web Site and Teleseminars.

When I get e-mails from prospective clients asking about my services, many times I can tell that the one-on-one service may not be appropriate for them. However, an e-book or some other product might be very useful.

When I am able to offer my products to people who can’t afford my services, or are on the fence about them, I am able to generate revenue from the situations that I would not be able to get anything out of if I only had my services to offer.

If you are a coach who offers ONLY services, I strongly recommend to look into creating multiple streams of income by creating and selling products in addition to services.
My Complete Step By Step Information Products Guide shows you a step-by-step process for creating e-books, teleseminars, members-only web sites, special reports and other products. You can get it at https://www.avocadoconsulting.com/rlinks/zinfo

Cannoli And Marketing

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Both my husband and I love cooking and entertaining. So when we had friends over for dinner a few weeks ago, we cooked the whole dinner from scratch. We made roasted eggplant and red peppers with fresh basil and garlic as an appetizer. The entree was chicken parmesan with pasta and we made a great summer salad to go with it. Our guests loved our cooking!

Dessert is a whole different thing, though. Neither one of us likes to bake or make dessert (we like to eat it, though), so for dessert we had excellent cannoli from my favorite bakery.

While we can cook tasty meals and enjoy doing it, we know that we don’t like baking. When it comes to dessert we outsource it to someone who knows how to do it and can do it better than we can. And by doing this we can concentrate on things we enjoy, such as cooking and spending time with our guests, while knowing that we had great cannoli waiting for us for dessert.

To get best results for your business, it is important to define exactly what you are an expert at and promote your expertise. Discover how to promote your expertise by teaching, join me for the Make Thousands Of Dollars With Teleseminars Series that starts on August 1st.

Multiple Streams of Income For A Service Business

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

Do you want to stop exchanging your time for money, and make money without working 70 hours every week?

If that is your goal for your service business, you should look into using a multiple streams of income business model for running your business. To me this is the ultimate business model for those who are looking to not exchange time for money, but to still earn a good living.

The idea is to create products (books, e-books, reports, audio recordings, seminars, etc), with each product being a new income stream. Now you are not just earning money from your services, but you are also earning them from each one of your multiple income streams.

Many of my income streams are completely automated – my buyers can buy my reports, e-books and audio recordings without any involvement on my part. My shopping cart processes the payment and allows the buyer to download the product after the payment is processed. I just get e-mail notifications of a sale.

With seminars I still teach them, record them and they turn into another product, audio recordings.

I find that selling my products is an additional great way to make money with my expertise. My clients receive the information they need at a lower price point, than if they were to engage my services. I am able to sell many products, because I do not spend any time on the sales/delivery/fulfillment process. A win-win for all.

Since starting to create my products, I have been decreasing the number of service clients I work with, while increasing my revenues.

How To Have A Successful Service Business

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

I was recently asked for advice for a new service business owner. I have launched my own service business many years ago and I have taught hundreds of clients how to market their service businesses.

Here is what I recommend:

Define your target market. Create a good description of your ideal client – define who she is, what she does, her age, occupation, etc.

Knowing your ideal client will help you market to her.

Create a marketing plan for your business. When you just launch your business you really need to build awareness for it.

Make sure your plan includes information on how you are going to be marketing your business and how often you will be doing that.

The biggest issue with service businesses is that many service professionals sell their time for money.

This means that you are limiting your earnings (you only have so many hours in a day to sell) and that when you go on vacation or take a day off, you are not making any money.

In addition to delivering your services make sure that you are also creating other streams of income for your business.

This can include group sessions, seminars, videos, e-books, audio products, books and more. That way even when you are taking a day off, your products are still earning you money.

What If Things Don’t Go As Planned?

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

A part of my business plan for this year includes attending local business networking events to meet more local solopreneurs and promote my business. To follow through with my plan, I decided to network in person last week. I found a few events I was interested in attending and put them on my schedule.
Of course, even the most detailed plans go awry. In my case a broken air conditioner prevented me from attending networking events. Instead of going to the events, I was stuck making sure that the air conditioning gets fixed. Having to work when it is hot is really no fun.

Eventually the air conditioning got fixed, but getting that done prevented me from attending local networking events. But even though I could not participate in local events in the last few days, I was still able to participate in online networking events, connect with my potential clients and get new clients and newsletter subscribers.

Online networking is a great way to network. What I love about online networking is that you can do it anytime – between client appointments, early in the morning and even when you are trying to get your air conditioning fixed.

Join me for some online networking! I am hosting an online networking event next week and you can join even if you only have 10 minutes to spare. During the event you will be able to connect with your potential customers, learn how to network online and create valuable connections.

What Do You Like To Do In The Summer?

Friday, June 15th, 2007

What are your favorite things to do in the summer? I just love walking around the city in sunny weather, when the temperature is in low 70s Fahrenheit (low 20s Celsius). The weather is just warm enough, and there is a light breeze coming from the lake – those are perfect Chicago days!

This past weekend I was in luck – it was nice and sunny, with the temperatures hovering around 72F. We spent almost the whole day outside! We walked around the city, went to my favorite sushi spot and went to the lake.

We also dropped by a Book Fair. I really enjoyed browsing books, and there were lots of cookbooks to see. I networked and made contacts at a local writing organization. I also watched a few authors speak about their books and signing autographs. Seeing them made my goal for writing a book firmer – I can’t wait to finish it!

Do you want to become an author? How about writing and publishing your own e-book? Get the Make Thousands Of Dollars With E-books Teleseminar Series Audio Recordings to find out how to become an e-book author.

Timing Is Everything!

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Have you heard the phrase, “Timing Is Everything”? I was reminded of it this weekend. We were about to leave the house to go run a few errands, but got delayed by 10 minutes. As we started putting on shoes to leave the house, we heard the rain starting outside. In a matter of two minutes the rain turned into a downpour and then 1/4 inch hail. It was hailing in June!

We ended up staying inside for the next 30 minutes, just watching the rain and hail through the windows. The rain just kept coming down, and it looked as if a wall of water was coming down from the sky. The hail was very loud; you could hear it hitting the trees and the roofs.

After 30 minutes it stopped almost at once, just as fast as it started. The sun came out and the hail melted almost immediately.

I was glad that we got delayed by 10 minutes and avoided being outside in that rain and hail. Timing, indeed, is everything.

Timing is everything for you too! If you want to create an e-book that you can start selling in September, you have to start writing it now!
