How to Promote Your Business in Pay Per Click Search Engines

Monday, March 20th, 2006

Pay per click search engines have been a great source of targeted leads for me and my clients.

Here are a few things to keep in mind if you decide to use pay per click ads to bring in leads and sales for your own business:

– Define what you are looking for – a lead, a sale, etc. Use one ad for just one purpose and one purpose only.

I always recommend to my clients to decide whether they want a lead of a sale from each type of ad they create.

– Target. The more targeted your ad, the better your results.

– Pick good, targeted keywords. Do a lot of research and target your ads.

– Set a budget and stick to it. As you are starting out, you will be testing a lot of different things. No reason to spend a lot of money – spend less money per click, and get more ads.

– Test, test, test. Test different ads, different keywords, etc. Compare and see which ads are more profitable, and model your later ads after the profitable ones.

How To Do Search Engine Optimization

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Many people have asked me how to get better search engines rankings. What is involved in search engine optimization and marketing – how can YOU get your web site to show up on top of those rankings? There are three things you need to work on to improve the search engine placement of your web site:

1) Every page of your web site needs to be optimized. This includes finding the most effective keywords for every page ( my favorite tool for doing this is WordTracker ), and using the keywords for the meta tags and title tag, as well as the text of the web page.

2) The holistic web site optimization. You whole web site needs to be optimized, and follow the principal of Complete Reachability. This means that every page should be reachable from every other page on the web site.

3) External search engine optimization. This includes links from other web sites, quality of those links, anchor text that comes from those web sites. It also matters whether the links to your web site are one way links or through link exchanges.

You can learn how to do search engine optimization, step by step, in my Step by Step Search Engine Optimization Special Report. In the report I explain all the techniques and actions
that I use for my own and my clients web sites. You can see
the report here: Step by Step Search Engine Optimization Special Report.

The report is written in plain English, so even if you are non-technical, you will understand how to do SEO.

The ramification of this statistic is simple: if you want to reach the members of your target market you need to make sure that your business web site appears in popular search engines.

What are Tags and Why They Are Important for Search Engine Optimization

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

Tags are portions of your HTML file, that are read by search engines, but are invisible to your web site visitors. They should be placed between beginning and end of the head section of your HTML file. There are two kinds of meta tags – keyword and description. There is also a title tag.

Just filling up the tags with keywords and other SEO information is not enough. You need to use the same keywords you use in your tags in the text on your web page.

To start with SEO, read my Basics of Search Engine Optimization article. It will help you understand the basic ideas of search engine optimization.

Then, once you are comfortable with the basics, I recommend getting my Step by Step Search Engine Optimization Report, which describes step by step, how to do your own search engine optimization. It explains what keywords, tags, titles and metatags are, and how to use them to promote your business, what causes your web site to show up higher in search engine results, one very common mistake that most people make when doing search engine optimization and how to avoid making it and much more.
