Three Social Networking Mistakes Business Owners Are Making

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Have you been using social networking web sites, such as Facebook and Twitter without getting any results? Many women business owners spend a lot of time on social networking web sites, but don’t have anything to show for it. They don’t receive any referrals, any clients, or any newsletter subscribers on social networking web sites.

After a while they become frustrated. They have heard that social networking is a very successful technique for marketing their business. But no matter what they do on social networking web sites, they are just not able to get results.

The reason these women business owners are not getting results on social networking web sites are the social networking mistakes that they are making. The good news is that once you know what those mistakes are, they are easy to correct.

Here are the top three mistakes women business owners make on social networking web sites and how to fix them:

1. Not Connecting With The Right People On Social Networking Web Sites. If you want to get results on social networking web sites such as Facebook and Twitter, then you must use them to connect with people who are in your target market.

You are using social networking web sites because you want to attract more clients and more newsletter subscribers on social networking web sites. To achieve these goals you must start by connecting with people in your target market. If you use Facebook and Twitter and just randomly connect with people there without thinking about it, you will still have fun, but you won’t be able to get clients and newsletter subscribers there.

To correct this mistake, use social networking web sites to connect with people in your target market.

2. Not Inviting Your Social Networking Connections To Subscribe To Your Newsletter. I have seen this happen again and again. Women business owners connect with people in their target market on social networking web sites and share useful content, tips and information. They didn’t do anything else, though, and their connections aren’t able to benefit even more by attending the business owners’ teleseminars or signing up for their services.

Just sharing information is not enough. You also need to ask your connections to join your list, so that you can continue building relationships with them and let them know about your products and services.

3. Not Having A Social Networking System. If you want to be very successful with social networking, then you must have a system for using social networking to connect with people in your target market, invite them to join your list and build a relationship with them. Did you get into business to make a difference in your clients’ lives and help them reach their goals and improve their lives? When you apply online marketing techniques authentically and effectively, you turn your marketing into a win-win. You win and people in your target market win! Here is how:

– Make A Difference With Article Marketing. When you are writing articles to submit to article directories, ask yourself — “how can I write effective articles that make a difference in my clients’ lives and at the same time demonstrate my knowledge and expertise?”

Share information that people need and you will help them, while demonstrating your expertise and knowledge at the same time.

– Make A Difference With Your Blog. Why do people come to your blog? They want to learn from you, and yes, they want to learn something that will help them improve their lives.

Use your blog to share tips and information that help people in your target market to improve their lives and reach their goals.

– Make A Difference With Social Networking Web Sites. This is one of the easiest methods to share and to help people in your target market. Use social networking web sites, such as Twitter and Facebook, to connect with people in your target market and to share your tips with them.

Bonus: since you are already writing articles and blogging, share your articles and blog posts on social networking web sites. That way you will share your expertise and help more people at the same time.

Social Media Marketing: How To Build Your List On Social Networking Web Sites

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Are you using social media marketing without seeing results? Many coaches and other service professionals have been telling me that they have been using social networking web sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, but they are not seeing results. Building your list on social networking web sites is extremely important for you, a service professional. It is easier to first convert a person in your target market into a newsletter subscriber, and then into client, than to immediately convert someone into a client.

Another reason you want to use social networking web sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, is because you want to keep in touch with your social networking connections even if you or they leave social networking web sites. The only way to keep in touch with them in that case is if they are subscribers to your list.

Social networking web sites fare great for inviting people to join your list. Here is how to get started:

– Offer a no charge report, ecourse or teleseminar
.

– Create an effective squeeze page for it

– Promote the free offer on social networking web sites. You can do that by sharing information yourself, sharing your blog posts, having your affiliates share about it, etc.

– Create a plan and keep marketing. In order to get continuous results you must share information about your free offer continuously.

Facebook Fan Pages – Why You Should Create One

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Have you created a Facebook Fan Page for your business yet? There are many different reasons to create a Fan page for your business, including more traffic to your web site, more clients and more newsletter subscribers.

A Facebook Fan Page is a page you create on Facebook specifically to promote your business, share your business updates and connect with people in your target market. There are many benefits to creating a Facebook Fan Page for your business:

– More Visibility For Your Business. Do you want to be visible to people in your target market? Then you need a Facebook Fan Page!

For example, when people join your Facebook Fan Page, their friends will see that did it, and their friends will be able to check out your page.

You can also connect your Facebook Fan Page with your Twitter account, so that every time you post an update on your page, your Twitter friends will be able to check out your Fan Page.

– More Web Site And Blog Traffic. Every time I talk to service professionals, they tell me that they need more traffic to their web sites and blogs. And guess what? Your Facebook Fan Page can drive more traffic to your web site and blog!

There are many things you can do to get more traffic from your Facebook Fan Page. The first thing you can do to get more traffic from your Facebook Fan Page is to link back to your web site from the Fan Page profile.

Next, you can link from your Facebook Fan Page to your new blog posts, every time you have a new blog post out.

– More Newsletter Subscribers. The goal for any marketing technique that you are using should be to build your list. And your Facebook Fan Page is no exception – you should use your Facebook Fan Page to build your list.

Think about this – if tomorrow you can’t access any social networking web site or group, what do you have left to still build your business and get clients? And then only thing you would have left is your list, the list that you have built for your business.

The most important thing you can do with your Facebook Fan Page is to use it to build your list, and you can learn how to build your list with your Facebook Fan Page with the How To Build Your List With Your Facebook Fan Page Home Study Guide. Facebook Marketing: How To Get Results On Facebook

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

A lot of service professionals have been telling me that they are spending a lot of time on Facebook without getting any results. They all have heard that they can be successful with Facebook marketing, but are not sure how to use it.

If you have heard that you can get clients for your business on Facebook, but are not sure how to do that, than read this blog post on how to use Facebook marketing to get results on Facebook!

Facebook is a social networking web site. The key to using social networking web sites for marketing your business is to understand how to connect with your perfect clients on Facebook. Once you connect with them, you can share tips with them, interact and network. Here are the top five strategies to get result with Facebook marketing:

Define Exactly WHO You Want To Meet On Facebook. Every technique that will actually get you results, including Facebook marketing, starts with knowing exactly who your perfect clients are. If you don’t know who your perfect clients are, you will not be able to get results with Facebook marketing.

Connect With People In Your Target Market on Facebook. Every action you take on Facebook needs to connect you with your perfect clients, people in your target market. Whether you are starting a business page, sharing tips or updating your status, ask yourself how doing this helps you connect and networking with people in your target market.

Become An Active Participant On Facebook. Facebook marketing will only work for you if you are active on Facebook. If you are not doing anything on Facebook, then people in your target market will not know who you are, and, as a result, will not learn anything about your business.

Share Tips On Facebook. A big part of your Facebook marketing should be promoting your expertise and sharing your expertise with people you meet on Facebook.

Here are a few ways to share your expertise: share tips using your status update. Share your blog posts on Facebook. Share your tips with members of your Facebook Business Page.

Start A Facebook Business Page. And speaking of Facebook Business Page, start one if you don’t have one yet. Your Facebook business page is the cornerstone of your Facebook marketing – you can use your business page to attract more people in your target market, share your expertise and invite your members to take the next step with you and become clients and customers.

How To Add Facebook Like Button To Your Web Site

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

I started talking about the Facebook changes in the Facebook Changes And How They Apply To Your Business: Part 1 post, that you should read if you haven’t read it yet. This post is about adding the Facebook “Like” button to a single static page on your web site. There will be another post about adding the “Like” button to your blog.

In this blog post I am using the Three Keys For Getting More Clients article as the example of a page I am adding the “Like” button to.

Why would you want to add a “Like” button to your web site? When people visiting your web site click on the “Like” button, your web site will get more exposure. When someone clicks on the button, a note will appear in the Facebook profile that they liked your page.

This note will be visible to their friends, and now their friends will be able to check out your web page. All of this means more traffic and exposure for your web site.

To get the “Like” button code for your web site, go to https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like. Once you are there, you will see the box that you need to fill out to get the code:

Here is what those fields mean:

URL to Like is the address of the page where you want to add the “Like” button. Just copy and paste it in that field. In our example, for the Three Keys For Getting More Clients article, the link is https://www.avocadoconsulting.com/articles/c1/3-keys-clients.html

Layout Style, see which one you prefer.

Show Faces is for showing friends’ pictures below the button.

Width is width of the button and other information

Verb to display, you can pick to display “Like” or “Recommend”

Font, you can choose the font

Color Scheme, pick the one that fits best with your web site.

Once you fill it out, it will look like this:

Click on the “Get Code” button to get the code. Paste the code into your web page. You can add it to the top or bottom of a web page. Here is what the button will look like:

I will be posting a tutorial on how to add the “Like” button to your blog soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please post them here. And if you want to share this tutorial with your people, please use the “Like” button below to share on Facebook :)

Facebook Changes And How They Apply To Your Business: Part 1

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

I am sure that you have heard about big changes happening on Facebook. As a part of these changes, you can see a “Like” button on top of this post, as well as a Recommendation Box in the menu on the right hand side.

But I am jumping ahead of myself. When I was mapping out this post, I was thinking about writing just one post, to include all the information. I wanted to write a post about the changes, how to use them on your web site and what these changes mean to you, a service business owner.

After I mapped out the post, it turned out to be HUGE, so I am breaking it into three different posts. The first post, this one, will be about the changes themselves. The second post will have information on how to add the buttons/boxes to your web site. And the third one will focus on how these changes will affect how you market your business online.

So, let’s talk about the changes. The first change I noticed last week was that my Fan Page button wasn’t saying “Become a Fan” anymore. Instead, it was saying: “Like”. And then all the new changes came, and now it seems that the Fan Page change to “Like” is a part of all these bigger changes. Since the way they want you to tag things that you like is by using the “Like” button, the best way to integrate Fan Pages into that system is by giving them “Like” buttons as well.

On to the big changes. The big changes are all about making the web more social, personalizing your web experience, and, well, putting Facebook in the middle of it, as the keeper of your “Likes”. Now if you are surfing the web for a movie to watch, looking for easy recipes or looking for a new dress, do you want to choose blind, or do you want recommendations from your friends? For example, if you want to make meatballs, wouldn’t you rather use a simple meatball recipe recommended by your friends? And if you are looking for a movie to watch, don’t you want to watch a movie that others have already enjoyed?

Now, you may not want to have the information about your “Likes” shared with other web sites. In that case you can Disable Facebook’s “Instant Personalization”.

You can also see how I integrated the Facebook “Like” button at my Easy Recipes Blog, for example Fish Tacos With Pineapple Salsa post.

Would love to hear from you – what do you think about these changes? Does knowing what your friends like on different sites help you make buying decisions? In the next blog post I will show you how to integrate the “Like” button into your web site.

Top Three Mistakes You Are Making On Twitter

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I have been hearing from a lot of service professionals who have been telling me that they are not getting the results they are looking for on Twitter. If you have been on Twitter for a while, but are not able to get clients there, chances are you are making one or more of these mistakes that I am discussing in this article. The good news is that you can fix these mistakes and then you will be able to start getting results on Twitter.

Here are the top three mistakes you are making on Twitter and how to fix them:

Mistake #1: Not Connecting With People In Your Target Market

If you are using Twitter because you need more clients, then the people you are connecting with on Twitter must be in your target market. If you are not connecting with your potential clients on Twitter, then you will not be able to get clients there. It is as simple as that.

How to correct this mistake: Review how you are finding new connections on Twitter. Make sure that when you are connecting with people, you are not connecting with everyone, but rather you are connecting with people who are in your target market.

Mistake #2: Lack Of Consistency

If you only participate in social networking once every month, then you are doing yourself a huge disservice. Your connections won’t remember you from month to month, so every time you participate, you will have to reestablish your connection and start building relationships from scratch.

How to correct this mistake: Be consistent and participate on a regular basis. To save time, automate the posting of some of your tweets.

Mistake #3: Not Sharing Your Expertise

Your potential clients want to work with experts. The best way to convince them that you are an expert is to demonstrate your expertise. If you are not sharing your expertise on Twitter, you are not taking advantage of one of the easiest way to attract clients to your business.

How to correct this mistake: Share at least one tip with your followers every day.

Social Networking Not As Good As It Used To Be?

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Ok, I have to say it. I have been hearing from lots of people recently that social networking web sites are not “as good as they used to be”.

By this people who are talking to me mean that social networking landscape has changed. Here is what I have heard recently:

– There is much more noise on social networking web sites than there was two years ago…

– It is not as easy to invite people to your calls, or to your newsletter anymore…

– No one on Twitter and Facebook is interested in coaching…

The good news is, while social networking landscape has changed dramatically in the last two years, one thing remained the same. The spirit of social networking stayed the same. When you use social networking web sites to share, help, educate, give, connect and refer on social networking web sites, you will get the same in return.

Now, I do want to clear one misconception that a lot of people ask me about. Should you market at all on social networking web sites? Should you let your connections know about your upcoming teleseminar, your coaching program or your new book?

Here is what I think. There is absolutely nothing wrong with marketing yourself on social networking web sites. There is nothing wrong with inviting your social networking connections to a preview call you are holding or letting them know about your book launch. As long as you are using your social networking presence to share, help, educate and give, there is nothing wrong with using a few of your status updates to let your connections know about your offerings. After all, if your connections don’t know what you are offering, they will not do business with you.

But what if you are experiencing what I described above, that social networking just isn’t working for you? Here are a few things to take a look at:

– Are you connecting with the right people? Even if you are doing everything right when it comes to social networking, you still need to be connected with the right people, people who are interested in what you have to offer.

If you are not connecting with people who are in your target market, you will still have fun on social networking web sites, but you won’t see the results you are looking for.

– Are you sharing tips and ideas? Sharing tips is the best and simplest way to promote your expertise. You can share short tips as a status update. To share a longer tip, right a blog post and share it.

– Are you letting people know what you have to offer? Sharing your offerings in an authentic and thoughtful way is a huge part of social networking. If you share about them too much, many people will tune you out.

On the other hand, if you don’t share at all, you are guaranteed that no one will take advantage of your offers.
