Getting Results From Social Media

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

There are many social networking web sites online. I am sure you have heard of LinkedIn, Ryze, Facebook, MySpace and many other social networking sites.

I am a member of a few of them, and we also do a lot of networking at my online business mentoring web site, https://www.MarketingSalad.com. I also run my own social networking events for business owners.

Lately I have been getting lots of questions about social media and online networking from coaches, consultants and other solopreneurs. It seems that social networking is becoming more popular and more business owners want to take advantage of social networking to get more clients for their businesses.

You have to remember that just like regular networking, using social media does take time. You are looking for results for your business and it takes time to get those results.

Some of the things i do when I use social media are: I run groups and networking events for people I meet on social networking sites, I keep in touch and network, I write and optimize my blog, etc.

Two main things to remember if you want to get results from social media are:

Correctly define your goals for social networking. You have to know know exactly what you want to happen from your involvement in social media and how to follow up and build on that involvement.

You need to find ways (and time!) to do social media marketing on a regular basis.

Eating Right Helps You Being More Effective

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

You are what you eat. I strongly believe that when you eat right, exercise and take time for yourself, you are more effective as a business owner.

So when I heard that my friend and colleague Gillian Hood-Gabrielson is teaching the Am I Hungry? Teleworkshops, in March and April, I thought that these would be perfect for business owners who want to improve their eating habits and become more effective as business owners. In just 8 weeks, you will learn surprisingly easy techniques to help you take charge of your weight for life. Gillian will teach you everything you need to know to become an Intuitive Eater- the kind of person who can eat what she wants and not gain weight.

I asked Gillian how the Teleworkshops can help a business owner specifically, and here is what she says:

“It’s really my belief that dieting, food obsession, body image issues, etc. all contribute to wasted time in an entrepreneur’s day. It’s amazing how much time my clients find when they give up the insanity and turn their focus back to the more important things in life. I also find the self-esteem that comes back when you stop dieting and obsessing about weight contributes greatly to one’s ability to network more effectively and really just put yourself out there. The confidence really helps with promoting your business. ”

Thanks, Gillian!

Should You Join A Networking Group?

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Many coaches have asked me if they should join a local networking group. Here is what I recommend.

It is really all about your goals for your membership and what you want to get out of it. Since your goal is to get referrals of potential clients, I would look at the group and see if members there are in position to send you referrals, if they have access to people who can make great referrals for you.

For example, if you are a business coach, your potential clients are business owners. If there are many members in the group who work with business owners and can refer them to you, this should be a big consideration for you joining the group.

On the other hand, if you are a life coach, you will need to have people in different professions in group, so that they can refer leads to you.

My recommendation is to set goals for what you want to get from the group, and see if the group will help reach those goals.

Are Soups Similar To Articles?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

In the winter it looks like soup is everywhere! I have been reading magazine articles on how to cook soup. I keep seeing lots of soup commercials. Many restaurants are offering hearty soups on their winter menus.

While I like soup just fine, it’s not my favorite food. I do like soups in the winter; they do make you feel warmer, but the reason I am not that crazy about soups is because the majority of soups I have had are just blah. They are fine, but nothing special.

But every once in a while I come across very tasty soups, soups whose taste makes them much more memorable. After I eat them, I remember these soups for a while. And if someone I know made that particular soup, you can be sure that I had asked for a recipe.

What if the articles that you write are just like these two types of soups? You do not want your article to be fine but forgettable like the first type of soup. You want it to be like the second type of soup. You want those who have read your article to remember it and to ask for
more of your products and services.

Tomorrow I will be teaching How To Create Article Resource Boxes That Get You More Attention And More Clients Teleseminar. During this teleseminar you will learn how to get more leads and clients from your articles by creating effective and memorable resource boxes. I will also show you examples of Resource Boxes that have brought results.

The teleseminar is only for members of my online marketing mentoring program, MarketingSalad.com. Find out how to become a member and attend the teleseminar at

Reach Many Coaching Clients At Once

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

As you know, getting leads for your coaching business is a great marketing technique. I recommend taking at least one action every day that will bring more leads to your coaching business.

Speaking to your potential coaching clients one-on-one is a good way to market yourself and gain leads for your bsuiness. Remember, though, not everyone you speak with is going to be a lead or vecome your clients. Therefore, you will need to speak with many people in order to get a few leads and clients for your coaching business. If you are speaking with all of them one-on-one, it is going to take a while to speak with enough people to just get 10-20 leads for your business.

So how do you spend less time and still lots of coaching leads? You do that by speaking with more than one person at a time. That way you can spend the same amount of time that you do now, but get more prospects.

There are many ways for you to teach your potential coaching clients:

– You can reach more people at once by doing speeches and presentations to groups frequented by your potential clients.

– You can reach more people by having and effective web site and publishing your own newsletter. Get many people to come to your web site, then have them subscribe to your newsletter.

– You can get your web site listed in search engines and get leads from search engines

The point of all of these examples is that you need to reach many of your coaching clients at once. That way you are going to be able to get lots of coaching leads and many coaching clients.

Are You Giving Up On Your Goals?

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Today February 1st, which means one month of 2008 is gone. How are your 2008 goals? Are you on target today? Here are three tips to help you keep up with your goals and resolutions:

Be clear about what you are trying to achieve. It is much easier to do something when you know exactly what needs to be done.

Break your goals into smaller, manageable tasks. It is really daunting if you are trying to achieve the task of writing a book. However, if you break the task of writing a book into much smaller and manageable tasks, such as creating an outline, writing Chapter 1, editing Chapter 1, writing Chapter 2, &&., it will become much easier to schedule and complete these smaller tasks.

Have someone to hold you accountable. Having to report to someone else whether you have completed your tasks really helps you stay on track and actually complete your tasks.

Lasagna And Other Recipes

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

When I cook, I like to be creative. There are times when I take a recipe and make many modifications to it – use different spices, substitute ingredients, etc. However, I follow one rule in my cooking – when I receive a recipe from a trusted source, I try it exactly the way it is written the first time. I use the exact amounts, as well as the same techniques and methods described in the recipe. If I like the resulting dish, I continue using the same recipe. If I do not like the result, I make changes to the recipe the next time I make the same dish.

A few weeks ago I tried a spinach lasagna recipe from a trusted source. I followed the recipe exactly and it came out perfectly – a nice blend of noodles, cheeses and spinach. It was flavorful and there were just the right amounts of sauce and cheeses. Given how much everyone liked it, I am going to make it again and I will not make any changes to the recipe.

I recommend that you use the same approach when you implement a new marketing technique for your business. Get a recipe for applying the technique from a trusted source and try doing exactly what the recipe says the first time you are working with it. As you learn the technique, you will see where you can modify it for yourself for best results.

Grow Your List By Using Pay Per Click Search Engines

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Can you get more newsletter subscribers by using pay per click search engines?

Pay per click advertising can help you build your list, but it can also help you spend a lot of money fast :)

If you are just starting with a pay per click campaign, here is what I recommend:

Learn about pay per click advertising and how it works before actually starting to use it. If you are not sure what you are doing, it gets expensive really fast. So learn before you jump in with your money.

Spend time on finding good keywords that your target customers would use searching for what you have to offer. Good keywords are key to reaching your target market and
getting them on your list.

Write effective ads. If your ad doesn’t speak to your target customers they will not click on your ad and you will not get them on your list.

Test! Compare different keywords, different ads and see which ones produce the best results for you.

Also, I would not rely just on pay per click to get subscribers. There are lots of other techniques that do not cost anything to apply, such as article marketing, search engine optimization, blogging and more. I recommend using pay per click as one of your list building techniques, but definitely not as the only one.

I will be discussing how to use pay per click advertising during the Grow Your List Teleseminar Series. There is just one more seat left, so register now at https://www.avocadoconsulting.com/rlinks/znews

2 Things To Do To Build Your List

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

In order to build your list you need to:

1) Have a great offer on your web site for new subscribers

2) Drive your target market to your web site in large numbers in order for it to take advantage of your offer and subscribe to your newsletter

You can achieve #1 by promoting your free report all over your web site. I recommend having your free offer front and center on each and every page of your web site.

And to achieve #2 you need to start working on using online marketing techniques to drive targeted traffic to your web site every single day.

There are many different marketing techniques you can use – search engine optimization, article marketing, blogging, networking, etc. The idea is to drive your target market to your web site, so that they can see your free gift offer and subscribe to your newsletter.

It is also a numbers game – the more traffic you can drive to your web site, the more people are going to subscribe to your newsletter.

Use Public Speaking To Get Newsletter Subscribers

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

So you are invited to speak in front of your target market. How do you maximize the results you can get out of this speaking engagement?

You can do that by inviting the people who are attending the presentation to subscribe to your newsletter.

During your presentation, I recommend passing around a sign-up sheet for your newsletter, asking participants for their name/e-mail address and permission to send them your newsletter. To make your offer more valuable, the sign-up sheet should have the information about the gift they will receive when they subscribe to your newsletter.

Don’t have a gift for your new newsletter subscribers? I recommend creating one, as this is one of the best techniques to get more subscribers for your list.

When you get their email addresses, you will be able to keep in touch with them and let them know about your upcoming events, seminars, and products. Doing this is extremely valuable to you as a business owner.
