Want to Sell Your Ebooks?

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

If you are just starting out with your ebooks, here is what I recommend:

– Create the complete e-book. This should be a PDF file that you will be selling.

– Have a payment processing system that can accept payment for the e-book online.

– Get a shopping cart that will let people automatically download the e-book, once the payment is confirmed. For example 1 shopping cart, oscommerce, etc.

For more information on that, as well as resources recommendation, you may get my special report, “5 Steps to Creating Your First E-book”. It is available at https://www.avocadoconsulting.com/rlinks/zebook

The Best Referrals

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

Your best referrals would come from people who work with your target market. For example, if there are a business coach and a business accountant networking together, they will be able to send referrals to each other on the regular basis. Accountant’s and coach’s clients are in the same target market, so they will be able to exchange referrals.

Therefore, if you are looking for leads for your business, and want to join a leads group for that, you need to look for a group that has at least a few people in touch with your target market, as these are the people who will provide you with referrals. Some of my best referrals have come from colleagues who work with the same target market as I do.

In addition to joining a leads group as a marketing strategy, I would also recommend to make sure that you have money/time leftover for other marketing strategies. There are so many of them – article marketing, business blogging, search engine optimization, newsletter publishing, etc. You should always split your time and resources between different techniques. Don’t Use Jargon

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

On a teleseminar I was teaching this week, one of the participants mentioned how much she likes my Complete Step by Step Online Marketing Course, because it does not use technical or marketing jargon. Rather, it is written in plain English.

I always mention to my clients the importance of not using industry-specific jargon on their web sites, in their blogs and products. While the jargon might be second nature to you, your potential clients will not be able to understand what you mean. People who don’t understand what they read on your web site or in your blog will not hire you.

How do you do that? Des Walsh mentions in the post on his blog, that For RSS as For Anything, Sell the Benefits not the Features. Des says:

“…don’t tell me what it is or does, tell me what it will do to make my life easier, more interesting or enjoyable, or more profitable.”

Make sure you follow Des’ advice when you write your own copy – you will have more happy customers.

Should You Host Your Blog Separately?

Monday, June 19th, 2006

When business owners are just starting blogging for business, one of the questions they ask is where to host the blog. Some want to host it as a part of their business web site, while others are interested in having a blog separately. Which option do you like better?
My own blog (you are reading it) is a part of my web site
( https://www.avocadoconsulting.com/marketing/ ). However, I have seen many blogs that weren’t the part of the main web site, but rather were hosted elsewhere. You may just grab another domain, and use the no charge Word Press software and host the blog that way. Or, you may use a hosted service, such as Type Pad or Blogger.

No matter which service you use, make sure that your blog has links to your newsletter, book, other products, so that your blog readers can learn about them.

You can still get traffic to your blog by optimizing your blog posts for search engines, listing your blog in blog directories, etc. The main thing to remember is that to get traffic to your blog, you need to promote it as you would promote your web site. No promotion means there will be no traffic.

Ebook Software

Sunday, June 18th, 2006

Many people ask me to recommend software for creating and selling their new e-books. There are lots of different software on the marketing to do that. I have created and sold many of my own e-books, and I have helped many clients to do the same. I have used PDF file format for all of my e-books, and I recommend it to everyone I work with. It is the most universal format for such things, and people using different computers and different operating systems can read PDF files. All they need is a free application called PDF Reader. Once they install it on their computer, they can read your e-book immediately.

If you decide to go with other software, I strongly recommend that you learn about its compatibility with different operating systems. If someone buys your e-book and they can’t read it because they don’t have software to read it, they will ask you for a refund. It is, therefore, in your best interest, to use the most common and universally used file format to deliver your e-book.

My special report, “5 Steps to Creating your First Ebook” addresses in-depth questions of how to sell your e-book, what system to use for that (shopping carts and more) and how to market it. You may check it out at https://www.avocadoconsulting.com/rlinks/zebook

GBuy, The Next Big Thing

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

If you sell products and services online, and use payment processors, you might want to check out Gbuy. GBuy, which is set to be released on June 28, is a new online payment system by no other then Google.

Google’s GBuy Could Be ‘Revolutionary'” article in Forbes gives more details about the system. Apparently, if you accept Gbuy, you will designated as a “trusted GBuy merchant” in Google’s search results, which is going to be a HUGE selling point for GBuy.

Will you be using it?

Marketing For A Local Business

Monday, June 5th, 2006

If you have a local business (meaning your business can only work one on one with local clients), such as a real estate business, restaurant, etc., here are some recommendations for promoting it:
– Network with businesses that you can exchange referrals with. Think of other businesses your target market might be working with and start networking with them. Once you get to know each other, you can explore how to exchange referrals and even work together to bring the best value to your clients.

– Use your web site to your most advantage. Optimize your web site, so that people looking for decorative painting services in your area can find you. You can also use pay per click services to drive potential clients to your web site.

– Think about leveraging your knowledge and experience to serve non-local clients as well. For example, a restaurant owner can publish a cookbook, that can be bought by everyone, not just people in the local community.

Article Marketing

Friday, June 2nd, 2006

More and more people ask me about article marketing, posting articles online and getting results from these actions. I LOVE article marketing – quite a few of my newsletter subscribers and clients have found me through the articles I have posted/shared online.

The best part about writing articles is submitting them to web sites, that in turn let others re-print them. As people re-print your articles on their blogs and web sites, you get a lot more exposure to people who would not have heard about your or your business otherwise.

Since a Resource Box that you include with your articles includes a link back to your web site, article submission helps build up more links, and, thus, more traffic to your web site.

Two of my favorite sites are ezinearticles.com and ideamarketers.com. I have included 20 of my favorite article submissions web sites with my Article Marketing for Profits Recording.
