Are your Digital Products Safe?
Monday, October 31st, 2005Many of my students have asked me how to address the fact that digital products can be shared on the internet, and what to do about that.
While it is very important to prevent the theft of your work, it is also very important to make sure that you provide the best experience to your paying customers.
Giving the Best Customer Experience to Your Paying Customers. I find PDF to be the best way to deliver the products, as this type of file can be read across different computer platforms. You can also use security features in Adobe to restrict user’s control over the file.
Protecting your Digital Products. This is a big topic, that I address during some of my teleclasses. In addition to using security feature, here is what I recommend:
– Your digital product should be promoting your other products. Populate your digital products with information about your business – link to your services, to your newsletter, your other products. That way, even if someone received your product you are still able to market yourself to them.
– Put a Google alert on your name and your product name. Use other search engines to search for your name and your product name. That way, if someone is trying to sell your product, you will be able to find out about that immediately.
– Set up an affiliate program for your product. This way, when someone wants to recommend your product, they will send people an affiliate link to the product, instead of sharing the product. This way, they can recommend a good product, AND make money at the same time.
Many of my customers become successful affiliates – they have already seen my products, so their recommendations carry a lot of weight. So they like to recommend my products to others through the Avocado Consulting Affiliate Program.
