Newsletters, Blogs, Articles

Friday, March 17th, 2006

What is the difference between blogs, newsletters and articles?

A newsletter is delivered by e-mail and it is a great way to keep in touch with your clients, potential clients and web site visitors. Not everyone reads blogs, but everyone checks their e-mail, so you can reach many people with your newsletter.

A blog is a great way to share information about your company/your content online. You should make your blog posts keywords-rich, so that they get picked up by search engines.

Article publishing helps you establish yourself as an expert, and it helps you build up links to your web site. When you submit aticles to article directories, they get picked up by newsletter publishers, and web site and blog owners, and get posted on their blogs/newsletters/web sites. This helps you, because every time your article is published, it is published with a link back to your web site. More links help you get more traffic to your web site AND more links help you with search engine optimization.

As to content, there you can do a lot of re-use. A question from a newsletter subscriber can turn into a blog post, add more to the blog post, and turn it into an article.

I will be doing a teleseminar on Profiting from Article Publishing next month, so I will be addressing all of this during the call.

How To Learn More About Your Web Site Visitors

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

One of most popular questions I get during my teleseminars is how to use web site statistics to get more visitors, and, ultimately, sell more products from the web sites.

Why is everyone so interested in using and analyzing web site statistics, and why is doing that so important? Because your web site statistics provide you with a lot of useful and usable information about your web site visitors’ behavior. Your web site statistics contain information on how your visitors get to your web site, why your visitors behave the way they do, which pages they love, which pages make them run away from the web site, and much more.

Here are just a few things you can learn from your web site statistics:

– Which products are the most popular with your web site visitors.
– Which pages on your web site don’t sell well and should be improved.
– If any of your links don’t work.
– How web surfers find your web site, and what you can do to get more of them to find you.

If you are not mining your web site statistics for all the available information, analyzing it, and using it to market your business better, start now! For more information on how to use your web site statistics, and get more people to BUY, get the How to Turn Web Site Visitors into Customers special report.

How To Do Search Engine Optimization

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Many people have asked me how to get better search engines rankings. What is involved in search engine optimization and marketing – how can YOU get your web site to show up on top of those rankings? There are three things you need to work on to improve the search engine placement of your web site:

1) Every page of your web site needs to be optimized. This includes finding the most effective keywords for every page ( my favorite tool for doing this is WordTracker ), and using the keywords for the meta tags and title tag, as well as the text of the web page.

2) The holistic web site optimization. You whole web site needs to be optimized, and follow the principal of Complete Reachability. This means that every page should be reachable from every other page on the web site.

3) External search engine optimization. This includes links from other web sites, quality of those links, anchor text that comes from those web sites. It also matters whether the links to your web site are one way links or through link exchanges.

You can learn how to do search engine optimization, step by step, in my Step by Step Search Engine Optimization Special Report. In the report I explain all the techniques and actions
that I use for my own and my clients web sites. You can see
the report here: Step by Step Search Engine Optimization Special Report.

The report is written in plain English, so even if you are non-technical, you will understand how to do SEO.

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Are you in love with an online marketing technique? So much so that you refuse to use any other marketing methods? Do you refuse to believe that a particular strategy is not a good fit for your business? Do you continue to use it against all odds, even though it’s clearly not working?

Holistic Search Engine Optimization

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

We all have heard that search engines are the number one resource for consumers to research and buy products or services online. In fact, marketing studies have shown that over 70% of web surfers use search engines to locate online merchants. The ramification of this statistic is simple: if you want to reach the members of your target market you need to make sure that your business web site appears in popular search engines.

Long Sales Letters

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

The question of long sales letters comes up from time to time on every marketing-related forum I have ever been to. There are people who love them, there are people who hate them, etc.

I’ve had clients who told me flat out that they hated those sales letters, never bought anything from long sales letter web sites and would never use them themselves.

Do you see a problem there? It is not about what you think about sales letters, it is about how your target market responds to the sales letters.

So, here is what I would recommend:

– Learning as much as you can about your target audience
– Learning about sales letters
– Testing your sales letter
– Tweaking your sales letter and testing it again

Here is a great book for learning more about sales letters: The Ultimate Sales Letter: Boost Your Sales With Powerful Sales Letters, Based on Madison Avenue Techniques, by Dan Kennedy. Get it – it will explain to you the sales letter formula, and how to create a sales letter for your own products.

Are You Giving Away Free Products?

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006

Should you, an online business owner, give away something for free? After all, your time is valuable, and you only have so many hours a week you can spend on work.

Every online business owner is giving away something. If you have useful web site content, write articles, blog, publish a newsletter – you are spending your time and giving some information away.

I always recommend to my clients to give away something that they can create once, but re-use it many times. For example:

– Give away a free special report, that you can write once and give away to many people. You may give it away to promote your business, or as a bonus when people subscribe to your newsletter, buy a bigger product, etc. I give away my special report, Top 5 Ways to Increase your Online Sales to my newsletter subscribers.

– Publish articles. You can write an article once, and have it re-printed on many article web sites, be published in many newsletters and blogs.

– Give advice while networking online. You write a message once, but it can be seen by many people.

You can even re-use the same information in different media – an online networking post can be re-used as a blog post. You can later extend it and turn it into an article or extend it even more and turn it into a special report.

What Is a Business Blog?

Monday, March 13th, 2006

Almost every day, I get a question from a business owner about what the definition of a blog is, how to start blogging and how having a blog could benefit a business.

A blog is a great promotional tool for your business. As major corporations have started their own business blogs, blogs became mainstream, and now more and more business owners are starting their own blogs. A few benefits of having a blog include the following:

  • Putting a Face on your Company. A blog is another way to communicate with your customers, and keep them coming back to your site to see new blog entries. When customers are interested in the company, they are likely to buy from it.
  • Getting More Web Site Traffic. Blogs consist mostly of text, something that search engines like to index. Thus, a blog is yet another way you could increase your web site traffic.
  • Online Publishing. If you have always wanted to start a newsletter, but are still afraid of committing to a newsletter schedule, a blog might be it. You write when you have time and something to say, and don’t have to stick to a rigorous schedule.

Remember, it is very important to keep up with your blogging. Just starting a never coming back to the blog won’t do much for your web site popularity with customers or search engines. Both love fresh content, so if you don’t post often enough, the customers and search engines will stop coming.

How To Get More Online Sales

Monday, March 13th, 2006

Do you want more online sales? What do you do when people come to your web site, but leave without buying anything? Marketing and sales go hand in hand – when you market, you drive people to your web site, who, in turn, should buy something on the web site. So what happens if people come, but no one buys? Here are action steps to take:

Check to see if you are bringing good, targeted visitors to your web site. If you are selling items targeted to baby boomers, but people who come to your web site are under 25, they will not be interested.

This is an extreme example, but make sure you re-evaluate your marketing efforts (search engine optimization, blogging, article publishing, etc) to make sure that they bring targeted visitors to your web site.

Make sure that your target customers can find exactly what they came for on your web site. Even if you are able to get highly targeted customers they still won’t necessarily buy from you, unless they can find what they are looking for.

Some people may be interested in information about your services, while others are on a limited budget will only be able to buy just one of your products. Make sure that all the visitors who come to your web site can easily find exactly what they are looking for.

Make it simple for your web site visitors to take action. People will go elsewhere if they can’t figure out how to buy from your or how to sign up for your newsletter.
