Making Sense of all Online Forums and Resources

Friday, March 10th, 2006

A few years ago I had a specific accounting question. After spending a week reading accounting newsgroups and web sites, and looking through a few accounting books, I called an accountant and made an appointment for 30 minutes of her time. I spoke with her the next day, had everything explained to me and had an answer within 30 minutes.

What is the moral of the story? If I went to the accountant in the first place, I would have saved myself a week’s worth of time, and had the answer much faster. I would not have had to surf different web sites and look at different web sites, searching for an answer.

Do you do what I did every time you have a marketing question? How much time are you wasting by looking at different forums, hoping for an answer? Would it save you time(and make you more money!) to be able to ask questions and receive answers from marketing professionals the same day?

If you are looking for answers to your marketing questions, and don’t want to waste weeks asking on different web forums, join me at Marketing Salad. There you will get online business answers directly from me, the online business consultant and expert Biana Babinsky.

Questions to Ask When Evaluating Online Advertising

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

How can you find the best places to advertise your business? Ask these questions about the advertising venue before paying for your ad and analyze the responses:

1. What target audience reads this resource?
If the resource is a newspaper for retired business executives, and you are promoting textbooks for college aged kids, you are in the wrong place. The advertising venue should have the same target audience as your business.

2. How many people would see my ad?
Of course you will not be able to get an exact number, but a good approximation would work as well. If you can have 2,000 unique people from your target audience to see your ad, the ad is worth more then if you could only have 100.

3. Can I talk to other advertisers?
A testimonial from someone who has advertised on the site and has gotten results is very important, especially for higher end ads.

Do You Have Web Site Traffic, But Not Enough Product Sales?

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

Every few days I receive questions from business owners, who have been marketing their web sites for a while. They are listed in search engines, participate in link exchanges, some even have their own affiliate programs.

All of these online marketing techniques are driving traffic to their web sites, but are not bringing in sales. Many business owners turn to me to help them analyze their web site, and tell them why the customers are coming, but not buying.

There are a few reasons this might be happening. Here are online business tips to help you figure it out:

1. Check your traffic sources. Are these web sites really sending you traffic? Many of my clients think that particular web sites are bringing in a lot of traffic, but looking at their web site statistics sometimes shows this not to be the case.

Don’t just think that certain web sites bring in traffic – check the statistics to be sure. To see how much traffic you are getting from those web sites, check your web site statistics.
No traffic = no sales.

2. Check the web site traffic quality If the web site statistics show that you are getting a lot of traffic from different web sites, check to see what kind of traffic they are sending you. For your web site traffic to actually bring in sales, their target traffic and your target customers should be the same.

If their traffic is interested in toys, and you are selling high end real estate, that traffic will not buy from you.

3. Check your own web site. If the web sites are sending you traffic, and the traffic is good(meaning it is in the same target market as your customers), than the problem might be at your end. You might need to make your web site more user friendly, make it easier for your customers to buy through your web site, etc. The Turn Web Site Visitors info Customers Special Report discusses how to make sure that your web site actually SELLS.

What Do People Who Created Successful Passive Income Streams Have in Common?

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

One thing that people who succeed with passive income streams all have in common is that they know how to market, and they use this knowledge to promote themselves and their products. They know that to make money they need to have an excellent product AND that they need to market it to people who need it.

As a business coach, I speak to many people every week. And sometimes I meet service professionals (coaches, consultants, writers, etc), who tell me that they do not need to market, because their customers should find them, as their expertise speaks for itself.

Marketing is the process of getting the word out about your business. If you don’t tell people about your business, if your web site does not get indexed in search engines, if you can’t generate leads from your business web site, and keep in touch with your leads, and turn them into your customers – how will your customers find out about you? They have to be told that you exist, what your expertise is, why they need to hire you and how to hire you. Your marketing strategy is what is going to get your target customers happily buy your products and hire you.

If you are just starting to promote your products online, here is what I would recommend you do:

1. Get the Complete Step by Step Online Marketing Course, to learn about different online marketing strategies that you can use to promote your products online. The course is broken into 8 Lessons, each one discussing a different strategy.

Publishing Newsletters versus Publishing Blogs

Monday, March 6th, 2006

Here are some thoughts on publishing newsletters versus publishing blogs:

Newsletters are great because they reach your customers’ mailboxes. Checking email is one of the basic things that pretty much everyone does, so even if your customers don’t have the time to browse your web site or blog, they will still check their email and see your newsletter.

However, with all the spam, spam filtering and spam laws, it is becoming harder and harder to reach customers’ maiilboxes in the first place. Many newsletters end up in the trash, because they trigger spam filters. If your newsletter ends up in the trash, the customer will not even see it.

There are many services that help you create and send out your newsletter. For example, take a look at Constant Contact. Right now there is a free 60 day trial, and you can use it free for a newsletter of 0-50 subscribers. Constant Contact also tells you which customer read/did not read your newsletter. This should give you an idea of a percentage of people reading your newsletter.

Blogs are great because you don’t have to worry about spamming. Since you are not sending out email, there is no way to being accused of spamming and no way for your message to end up in the trash. Blogs are also great because they help you get more search engine rankigs.

However, it is harder to get people to go to your blog and read it every time it is updated, as not many people are using RSS technology to be notified of blog updates.

What are Tags and Why They Are Important for Search Engine Optimization

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

Tags are portions of your HTML file, that are read by search engines, but are invisible to your web site visitors. They should be placed between beginning and end of the head section of your HTML file. There are two kinds of meta tags – keyword and description. There is also a title tag.

Just filling up the tags with keywords and other SEO information is not enough. You need to use the same keywords you use in your tags in the text on your web page.

To start with SEO, read my Basics of Search Engine Optimization article. It will help you understand the basic ideas of search engine optimization.

Then, once you are comfortable with the basics, I recommend getting my Step by Step Search Engine Optimization Report, which describes step by step, how to do your own search engine optimization. It explains what keywords, tags, titles and metatags are, and how to use them to promote your business, what causes your web site to show up higher in search engine results, one very common mistake that most people make when doing search engine optimization and how to avoid making it and much more.

What Is The Foundation of Your Online Business?

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

Have you ever seen how a house is built? Before anything else, the foundation is put in place. While the foundation is not visible, a house without one will not be around for long.

This is why it surprises me when online business owners don’t create a foundation for their online business. They put together a few web pages with some offers, then wonder why noone is buying.

What they are forgetting is the foundation, or infrastructure for their business. Without the infrastructure, noone comes to your web site, and as a result, noone is buying, and you
are not making any more.

Here are some of the things that should be included in your online business infrastructure:

– Professional web presence

– Means to process payment for products and services

– Means to deliver a product to a client automatically,
without you being involved

For a complete list of things that are included in your web site infrastructure, as well as ideas on putting them together for YOUR business, join me at MarketingSalad.com. All this information is available in the current online marketing lesson for members.
