Do You Need A List If You Have A Facebook Fan Page?
I have been hearing lately that a lot of small business owners are deciding to not have a web site or a list, and instead conduct all of their business, marketing and customer service activities through their Facebook Fan Pages. And I think they are making a huge mistake!
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love having a Facebook Fan Page to share tips and information about my business. Having a Fan Page is great, and it can help your business to connect with your potential clients on Facebook. But you should never use your Facebook Fan Page instead of your list. You should use it in addition to your list.
The reason for having a Facebook Fan Page, but also your own list is pretty simple. You have control over your list, but you have absolutely no control over what happens to your Facebook Fan Page. Just yesterday, when when Facebook Fan Page prototypes were released for a few minutes lots of people were upset, because they didn’t like how the new Facebook Pages looked. Make sure that your Facebook Page is not the only place where you market your business and keep in touch with your potential clients. Make sure that you have a list to keep in touch with your potential clients. Make sure that you also have a web site and a blog, to help you attract even more clients to your business.
Don’t put all of the your eggs in one basket. While the Facebook Fan Pages did go back to the old design yesterday, I would not be surprised if the new design rolls out at some point in the future. Make sure to build your list, so that no matter what happens to your Facebook Page, you are still able to market your business and keep in touch with your potential clients.

Great point Biana! Facebook pages are a great way to help build your list. When you direct new visitors to a welcome page that features your giveaway and opt-in form, you grow your list! But who knows how long Facebook will allow us to do this for.
Thanks!
